Law Firm of the Year: Germany

Schalast Rechtsanwälte und Notare

Frankfurt-based Schalast has just 50 lawyers, but impressed the judges with a series of imaginative initiatives over the course of 2017. The most eyecatching was its acquisition of a majority stake in legaltech and legal oursourcing company Clarius Legal, allowing the firm to offer a series of legal tech solutions to clients at fiext prices. Added to this, Schalast also invested in a number of tech tools for internal organisation and to help client-facing processes. Schalast’s ambition in tech was matched by its turnover growth (up 25 per cent in 2017), a new office in Hamburg and by its branching out into new practice areas of telecoms and real estae with strong lateral hires. The judges applauded its ‘well-presented variety of cross-border work, strong commitment to development and impressive range of technology investments’.
