Law firm of the year: Germany
A titan of the independent German scene, over the last five years Noerr has posted consistently the strongest growth figures of its competitors. But the top line does not tell the full story. On a practice level the firm has invested further in corporate litigation and regulatory, and 75 per cent of its deals are multi-jurisdictional, with cream-of-the-crop clients that include Allianz, Daimler, Deutsche Bank, Fresenius Medical Care, Rocket Internet, Bayer and Volkswagen. Most evident within Noerr’s development has been a strong emphasis on an all-staff culture and diversity: there is now an enormous range of flexible working models, and four out of the five recent equity partner promotions were female. As one might expect from a firm of this size and calibre, there has also been a strong investment in technology and service delivery, particularly on litigation. The judges praised its consistently robust growth and its ‘strong and successful’ emphasis on diversity as ’impressive on all counts’.
Highly commended: Flick Gocke Schaumburg
A go-to firm for tax law, private wealth and strategic succession planning, Flick Gocke Schaumburg has seen remarkable growth over the last decade, with the equity partnership doubling in size. Last year saw the firm open in Dusseldorf to solidify its presence within the Rhine-Ruhr cluster. The judges praised the firm’s ‘really clear strategy’ and focus.
