Law firm of the year: Iberia
SRS Advogados is not the largest firm in Portugal, but it is certainly one of the fastest-growing, with turnover up 17 per cent from the previous year. The firm saw some strong client wins in the energy sector with new work for Galp and Sonangol, and in 2018 launched the first start-up accelerator by a Portuguese law firm. Corporate clients include AGEAS, Mizuho Bank and Banco do Brasil. A particularly fruitful area of focus for SRS has been its Singapore office, which has been a springboard for private wealth investors looking to do business in Portugal and the Lusophone world generally. Back at home the firm has attracted some attention for its health and wellbeing initiatives for its staff. The judges praised the firm across the board, but particularly for its international push, its mapping of a clear path for promotion for lawyers and its start-up accelerator. ‘It’s a strong client list, good growth and a great story,’ they said.
Highly commended: PLMJ
Having just celebrated its 50th anniversary, PLMJ is not resting on its laurels. The firm’s vision is to be the go-to practice for the Lusophone world, based on its success in Angola and Mozambique. The judges praised its ‘strong Africa presence’ and ‘commitment to technology and innovation’.
